The 15 Best Organizing Hacks You've Probably Never Heard Of

Many “get organized” strategies require you to invest in a bunch of containers and gadgets. Getting creative with what you already have, however, will often yield results that are just as good, if not better. Save time, money, and your sanity with these 15 ingenious organizing hacks:

1. When loading the dishwasher, place dirty forks, knives, and spoons in separate utensil sections so that it will only take you seconds to put them away.

2. Picky eaters? Allergies? Cut sandwiches in half at different angles to easily distinguish whose is whose.

3. When making a grocery list, list items by their location in the store. If the produce section is by the entrance, for example, place the fruits and vegetables you need at the top of the list.

4. Use an egg-slicer to quickly and evenly cut mushrooms and strawberries.

5. Keep baby carrots and other healthy snacks at eye level in your fridge. This will encourage healthier eating.

6. Stick a removable hook on the back of the high chair so you always have a bib when you need it.

7. Keep a cleaning caddy stocked with supplies under every sink in your home. This will make a quick daily wipe-down much more manageable.

8. Save time getting ready in the morning by using multi-purpose products and cosmetics. A CC cream, which includes moisturizer, concealer, foundation, and sunscreen, is a favorite.

9. If space in your closet is tight, slide a soda can tab over the handle of a hanger. Hook a hanger through the tab to store another article of clothing.

10. Cut a pool noodle into smaller sections and stuff them into your boots to help them keep their shape.

11. Organize the insides of your dresser drawers by using empty shoeboxes to contain socks, undergarments, and other smaller items.

12. Create a “Fun on the Run” activity kit by placing a selection of paper, stickers, and markers in a repurposed DVD case. Keep by the door or in your car.

13. Use a Sharpie to write the balance on a gift card.

14. Use nail polish to color code your keys.

15. Keep a “Going up” basket at the bottom of your stairs to corral items that don’t belong downstairs. Get everyone in your home in the habit of taking stuff up and putting it away each time they climb the stairs.
