Our Top Tips for an Organized Summer

June has arrived in all its sunny glory. This month, school ends, camps begin, summer travel commences, pools open, and the a/c goes on full blast. With so much fun about to begin, it’s a good idea to take some time to get organized now. You might be surprised to learn how an organized summer contributes to a stress-free one.

I’ve shared some of my best tips for summer organizing below. Take a look at the simple steps you can take to keep your summer easy, breezy, and clear of clutter:

Brighten Up Your Belongings

Bright summer colors aren’t just a vibrant aesthetic addition - they can also simplify your life. For example, painting the tops of your keys, or using colorful key caps, will help you distinguish your front door key from your office key. Color-coded labels work well in a variety of spaces, too. You can use colorful file folders to categorize documents in your home office, or use colored picture labels on playroom storage bins to make it easy for your kids to put toys back where they belong.

Make Space for Summer Staples

With bathing suit season upon us, summer is the perfect time to encourage healthy eating habits. I recommend pre-washing healthy snacks, such as baby carrots and grapes. Store them at eye level in your fridge, so that everyone in your household can easily access them. You also might want to consider moving holiday dishware to higher shelves - or even the garage - to make space for outdoor-friendly dining must-haves.

Keep a Kit (or two)

Pool/Beach Kit: Throughout the summer months, I keep a beach bag packed and ready to go at a moment’s notice. It’s filled with all of the essentials, including towels, sunscreen, hats, small pool toys, goggles, and a pair of extra sunglasses. But I think the biggest game changer for me was adding plastic bags to store wet bathing suits!

Outdoor Entertaining Kit: If you plan to do some outdoor grilling or entertaining, a caddy can help corral barbecue tools. You can also use it to organize condiments, marinades, sauces, and spices, so that you don’t have to run into the house while you’re cooking. Try to store the caddy in a spot next to the grill, or nearby in your kitchen. Even better yet, consider using a second caddy to easily carry plates, cups, utensils, napkins, and snacks for the kids outside!

Embrace the Garbage Bag

While the tips above will help you get organized before you get too busy, the best way to simplify your summer is by decluttering. Embrace the garbage bag and toss anything that bugs you every time you see it!

Here are 3 things you can toss in a matter of minutes:

1. Takeout menus from restaurants you never visit

2. Chargers from gadgets you no longer own

3. Broken or duplicate items

If summer activities are already in full swing for you, I know that finding the time for even these simple solutions might feel like too much.
